Mount Teide is currently dormant, the last eruption occurring in 1909 from the subsidiary vent of Chinyero on the western slope.Another popular excursion for holidaymakers to Tenerife is a boat trip to see the whales and dolphins that bask in the ocean surrounding the island. A third of all species of whales and dolphins either live in or will at some time pass through the waters of the Canary Islands.
